In them all the time these days, and while most are completely productive and worthwhile, sometimes I find myself listening and drawing. And if the meeting itself isn't interesting, at least the faces of the people in it always are.

Shallow is no more than a half-inch. Weekly gossip mags are tempting, but are they harmless? I can't resist a good Kourtney v. Kim cover especially when Brangenlina's perfection is also in peril. Taken out of context, though, these stories get sad or even more ridiculous.

When I was five, I got a cone-shaped princess hat. It was covered in pink satin, with a band of gold sequins around the bottom and a veil of teal material sewed to the point. It fit snugly on my head with an elastic strap, and I treasured it. In retrospect, it looked more like a dunce cap than anything else, but on my birthday party that year, I wore it to the envy of my little friends. One particularly bold little friend asked to wear it for awhile. And so the princess was de-crowned--on her birthday no less. And it wasn't long before my little schoolmate took a header down the metal slide in our back yard--falling hat first into a muddy patch of grass. I was devasated, and my father had to remove me from the festivities to assure me a fit was not in order, and that he and my mom would get me another princess hat very soon. But by the time they got around to it, I didn't really want one anymore, and the princess hat had lost its magic. It wasn't the end of my princess phase (although phase implies something that has an end in sight), but a change from pointed hats to tiaras or something.

Sometimes I get the feeling I do too many drawings with pens. And that's probably
because brushes seem harder to control. I also feel like for every drawing I begin with
a brush the chances of my discarding it are very high. Maybe that's why when one
does turn out I like it a bit better than most things.

My good friend and I collaborated on some illustrative posters. I did the drawings, and passed them off to Lacey who collaged them and brought them to life in this series.

I'm not sure how these came about, but I've been doing lots of them lately. Here's a progression showing where they started and where they're going.

I recently gathered some drawings from the last year and decided to have them bound by blurb. A very nifty site where you can turn your creative fodder into bound books. I was really happy with the printing quality and the ability to design the whole thing in Adobe in-design. Below are some of the drawings from from the book. Look at the rest here.

Eric and I traveled to Germany last October to attend Illustrative - an annual illustration/fine art festival that Eric was showing in. We spent over a week in Berlin and sketched in Einstein's coffee shops to get out of the chilly October air. Here are some of the sketches inspired by the bustling and dynamic city.
